Morpheus Multimedia has announced “Felabration 2024: Look and Laugh,” a vibrant celebration of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, taking place across the UK.
The Gidi Vibes™, an event platform owned by Morpheus Multimedia, will bring this dynamic festival to Sheffield and Hull from October 18th to 20th, offering a tribute to the legendary Nigerian musician and activist.
Fela Kuti, born in 1938 in Abeokuta, Nigeria, revolutionised global music with his unique blend of African rhythms, jazz, funk and highlife. Known as the creator of Afrobeat, he used his music to address political and social issues, challenging corruption and advocating for justice. Over the years, his influence has transcended borders, inspiring multiple generations of artists and activists worldwide. Conceived by his eldest daughter Yeni Kuti in 1998, Felabration has grown into an annual, international celebration of Fela’s legacy.
According to Fágbèmí Ọ̀ṣìnúgà, founder of The Gidi Vibes™, “Felabration UK 2024 is a monumental occasion to not only celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Africa but also to honour Fela Kuti’s contribution to global music and social activism. We are thrilled to host this event in the UK, where Fela’s influence continues to resonate.”
This year’s Felabration will kick off in Sheffield on October 18th at Network Sheffield and conclude in Hull on October 20th at the renowned Ferens Art Gallery, followed by an exclusive after-party at ATIK Nightclub. The Ferens Art Gallery will also feature the “Seen and Unseen” exhibition, showcasing works by prominent artists of colour, thanks to the support of Hull Museums and Gallery.
The festival will feature a lineup of DJs and performers, including Sensei Lo, YINXDJINX, and DJ Nas B, with more headliners to be announced soon. Additionally, The Gidi Vibes™ is inviting digital artists from around the world to collaborate on a virtual mural celebrating Fela’s legacy, which will be displayed across the event venues.
