Mobile filmmaking ingenuity on display at Lagos smartphone film fest

The Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival (LISFF) wrapped up its two-day extravaganza at the Silverbird Galleria on September 13 in a dazzling celebration of cinematic innovation.

The brainchild of visionary organiser Kayode Bakerr, a statement said this groundbreaking event united filmmakers, content creators and industry insiders to push the boundaries of mobile filmmaking.

Day one kicked off with a jaw-dropping showcase of short films shot entirely on smartphones, proving that big-screen magic can indeed come in pocket-sized packages. The British Council’s Film Lab Africa Initiative added extra star power, presenting 10 grant-winning microfilms that left audiences in awe.

As the festival rolled into its second day, attendees were treated to a star-studded panel discussion moderated by Adaoha Njemanze. Industry heavyweights John Njamah, Check Edgar and Shola Thompson shared pearls of wisdom on everything from intentional storytelling to harnessing the power of social media for global reach. The message was clear: collaboration is key in the ever-evolving world of Nollywood.

Moses Agochukwu, head of operations at Silverbird Film Distribution, delivered a rousing call to action for aspiring filmmakers. His advice? Chase your passion, know your audience and seize every opportunity that comes your way.

But it wasn’t all serious business at LISFF. The festival’s entertainment lineup had attendees dancing in the aisles, with electrifying performances by Boidamzy, Lordaugbeatbox and Tomi Owo. Hosts Victory Wilson and Tolu Ajibola kept the energy high and the laughs flowing throughout the event.

As the curtain fell on this year’s LISFF, one thing was crystal clear: the future of filmmaking fits in the palm of your hand. With its potent mix of innovation, education and pure entertainment, the Lagos International Smartphone Film Festival has firmly established itself as a beacon for the next generation of cinematic trailblazers.
