MTV UK has announced the premiere of an innovative documentary series titled “Living Lyrics” this August. The four-part series, a collaboration between BET UK/Paramount and BBC Studios, promises to offer viewers an unprecedented glimpse into the lives and creative processes of some of Britain’s most talented musical artists, according to a statement.
Hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Kenny Allstar, “Living Lyrics” will feature one prominent British artiste per episode, including award-winning North London rapper Headie One, grime legend Ghetts, South London rapper and singer-songwriter Enny and chart-topping Birmingham-based rapper Mist.
The series, which initially streamed exclusively on My5, will now reach a wider audience through MTV UK, airing weekly on Sundays at 10pm starting August 20th. Viewers can tune in via Sky channel 126 to catch this compelling blend of performance and documentary.

“Living Lyrics” aims to provide an all-access pass to the hidden stories behind some of the UK’s most iconic lyrics. Kenny Allstar will take viewers on a journey through the places, people and cultural influences that have shaped these artistes’ most memorable tracks. The series will feature a mix of on-the-ground footage and exclusive archive material, offering a unique perspective on each artiste’s creative journey.
A highlight of the series will be two exclusive performances per episode – one in-studio and one acoustic set in a location of personal significance to the artiste. This format promises to deliver both raw emotion and polished artistry, giving fans a multifaceted view of their favourite musicians.
From Ghetts breaking down his politically charged track “Double Standards” to Enny exploring the backstory of her empowering anthem “Peng Black Girls,” “Living Lyrics” is set to peel back the layers of these artistes’ work, revealing the truth and inspiration behind their lyrics.
With executive producers Shurwin Beckford, Fatima Sesay and James Corbin at the helm, “Living Lyrics” is poised to become a must-watch series for music lovers and aspiring artists alike. As it makes its debut on MTV UK, the show is set to offer a fresh, intimate look at the UK’s vibrant music scene and the talented individuals shaping its future.
