Elton John has ended his live-touring career of over 50 years with a final emotional stop on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.
The final stop on the tour spanned more than 330 dates and became the first in Billboard Boxscore history to break $900 million in ticket sales. The legendary musician treated concert-goers to a two-and-a-half-hour set of music, playing many of his greatest hits, including “Bennie And The Jets,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Candle in The Wind,” and “Rocket Man”. The night also featured a special appearance from Coldplay’s Chris Martin via a video link from Copenhagen.
Closing the show with “Your Song” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” he thanked fans for supporting him on tour over the last five decades. He expressed his gratitude to the band, the crew, and his family, including his sons and husband.
He reflected on his career, saying, “52 years of pure joy playing music, how lucky am I to play music? But I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, albums and CDs and more importantly you bought the tickets to the shows and you know how I love to play live”.
John’s husband David Furnish paid tribute to the singer by posting a sweet clip of him and their two sons Zachary, 12, and Elijah, 10, as they waved on the side of the stage. The singer also took to Instagram to reflect on the special night, captioning two pictures with “The Final Farewell, 8 July 2023”.
Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on September 8, 2018, and ended in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 8, 2023. It was intended to be John’s final tour and consisted of more than 300 concerts worldwide.
