Yemi Alade, Billy Porter, Omawumi to headline Global Black Pride 2024 in Atlanta

Atlanta is gearing up for a week of vibrant celebration as Global Black Pride 2024 announces its groundbreaking lineup. From August 27 to September 2, the city will host what promises to be the largest Black Pride event in the United States, featuring an impressive array of talent and activities.

Headlining the event are three powerhouse performers: Nigerian Afropop sensation Yemi Alade, Broadway icon and Hollywood star Billy Porter, and Nigerian singer-actress Omawumi. Yemi Alade’s appearance marks a historic moment as she becomes the first African music artiste to headline a Pride festival in the US.

The festival, themed “Love and Legacy,” will offer a diverse range of events spread across various Atlanta venues. Attendees can look forward to a two-day conference, a global village, a film festival, music performances, parties, art exhibitions and social gatherings. The main musical event, featuring the headliners, is scheduled for August 31.

Global Black Pride President Micheal Ighodaro expressed enthusiasm about the lineup, highlighting how the artistes’ messages of empowerment align with the event’s mission to celebrate diversity and unity within the Black LGBTQ+ community.

Billy Porter, fresh from his “Summer of Prides” series, is set to deliver a grand finale performance. The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award winner continues to be a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and recently received the keys to Miami Beach for his activism.

Yemi Alade, known for hits like “Johnny” and her collaboration with Beyoncé, brings her dynamic Afropop sound to the event. Omawumi, runner-up on “West African Idols” in 2007, will showcase her unique blend of Afro-pop, soul, and R&B. Both artists are recognized for their advocacy of gender equality and women’s rights.

The founders of Atlanta Black Pride Weekend emphasized that the event is more than just a festival – it’s a movement celebrating the intersectionality of identities and the richness of Black LGBTQ+ culture on a global scale.
