HBO has officially announced the premiere date for “Music Box: Wizkid’s Long Live Lagos,” a highly anticipated feature-length documentary chronicling the spectacular rise of Nigerian superstar, Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun.
The film is set to debut on HBO and will stream concurrently on the Max platform on December 11, 2025.

Directed by Karam Gill and executive-produced as part of Bill Simmons’ critically acclaimed Music Box series, the documentary traces Wizkid’s extraordinary trajectory from his roots in Surulere, Lagos, to commanding global stages as a defining figure of the Afrobeats movement.
The documentary, which garnered significant attention following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, runs for approximately 85 minutes. It employs a rich blend of intimate interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes access, and electrifying concert footage to chart the artiste’s journey and his profound cultural impact.
An official trailer released by HBO alongside the announcement highlights deeply personal moments and showcases the dramatic build-up to Wizkid’s sold-out performance at Tottenham, a pivotal sequence in the film that underscores his definitive crossover into stadium-level global stardom.
Producers are framing Long Live Lagos as both a deeply personal portrait of an artist and a broader commentary on the unprecedented ascent of Afrobeats on the global music landscape. This positions the film as a key instalment in a growing roster of projects that bring African artists’ stories to an international audience.
The scheduled HBO and Max premiere provides millions of international viewers with their first opportunity to see the documentary following its successful festival circuit run. Industry analysts widely anticipate the broadcast will significantly broaden Wizkid’s reach, offering a high-profile, cinematic record of one of Afrobeats’ most influential and defining careers.
