Wizkid, Rema, Tems and Asake have earned nominations for the prestigious 2025 American Music Awards, showcasing Africa’s growing influence on the global music landscape.
As reported by billboard.com, the quartet will compete in the Favourite Afrobeats Artist category alongside South African sensation Tyla at the upcoming 51st edition of the awards ceremony.
The Afrobeats category, introduced just three years ago in 2022, has become a significant platform for African artistes breaking into mainstream Western music markets. Wizkid made history as the inaugural winner of this award, setting the stage for the genre’s continued international recognition.
This year’s AMAs ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 26, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Jennifer Lopez will return as host after a decade-long absence from the AMAs stage, doubling as both presenter and performer for the globally broadcast event.
While Nigerian artistes make waves in the Afrobeats category, hip-hop artiste Kendrick Lamar dominates the overall nominations with an impressive 10 nods. His nominations span major categories including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for GNX, and Song of the Year for his Drake diss track “Not Like Us.” Lamar’s presence is particularly strong in the Favourite Hip-Hop Song category, where three of his tracks secured nominations.
Other leading contenders include Post Malone with eight nominations, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Shaboozey each earned seven. Taylor Swift, already the most decorated artiste in AMAs history, received six nominations alongside Bruno Mars, SZA and Lady Gaga.
The 2025 ceremony will also introduce three new award categories: Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Social Song of the Year, adding fresh dimensions to one of music’s most celebrated nights.

The American Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Eldridge Industries and Billboard parent company Penske Media.
