Wim Wenders’ cult classic “Wings of Desire” screens in Lagos

Screen Out Loud, in collaboration with Alliance Française Lagos, is set to present a screening of the 1987 German film, Wings of Desire, marking the programme’s final showing of the year.

The film, directed by the celebrated German filmmaker Wim Wenders, is a poetic and visually stunning masterpiece that marked the director’s “homecoming” to German cinema after an eight-year stint in America.

Wings of Desire (Original Title: Der Himmel über Berlin) employs a stellar cast, including Bruno Ganz, Peter Falk, Solveig Dommartin and Otto Sander, in a captivating story set in a grey, colourless Berlin. The film follows two angels who silently observe humanity in black and white. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when one of them, Damiel, falls in love and yearns to abandon his immortality to experience the joys and pains of being human and see the world in colour.

Film lovers are invited to join the screening this Saturday, November 15, at the Alliance Française Lagos/Mike Adenuga Centre (9 Osborne Road, Ikoyi). Doors open at 4:30pm, with the screening scheduled to begin promptly at 5:00pm (GMT+1).

The event is organised by Screen Out Loud and Alliance Française Lagos, with generous support from the French Consulate in Lagos, Goethe-Institut Nigeria, the Wim Wenders Stiftung and Salaud Morrisset.

Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to invite friends and arrive early to secure a spot.
