Kerry Washington is defying the celebrity norm by actively reading social media comments to foster a deeper connection with her fans, per film-news.co.uk. The Scandal star shared her unique approach in a recent interview with InStyle, explaining that she now views social media as a vital tool for community and engagement.
“If you don’t read the comments, you’re not in community,” Washington stated, a sentiment that she says evolved, possibly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She describes her online presence as a space to “express gratitude” and “engage” with others, carefully curating content with her social media director to ensure her page remains a source of “fun and inspiration.”
While she’s an open book with her online community, Washington maintains a firm boundary when it comes to her family. The actress, who has been married to actor Nnamdi Asomugha since 2013, explained her conscious decision to keep their children, Isabelle, 10, and Caleb, eight, out of the public eye.
“Our kids get to be who they are, not who the world has decided they are,” she said, highlighting her desire to protect their privacy. This protective stance extends to her marriage as well, as she feels it’s important to keep their “real truth” private and not “for public consumption.”
