The Nigerian International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) Lagos 2024, scheduled for August 28-30, is set to be a groundbreaking event for the African and global entertainment industry. This year’s summit, according to the founder, Ijeoma Onah, promises a rich array of opportunities for filmmakers, distributors and content creators from around the world.
Indeed, as can be gleaned from the snippets below, this year’s summit promises a rich programme of activities that will captivate industry professionals and film enthusiasts alike.
One of the highlights of NIFS 2024 will be the premiere of short films produced by participants of the British Council’s Film Lab Africa project. This initiative, designed to support and nurture the next generation of African filmmakers, will culminate in a special screening event on August 28.
The British Council, in collaboration with Sterling One Foundation and Ebony Life Academy, will also host a panel discussion at the Legend Hotel Lagos Airport. This session will explore the impact of industry support on developing emerging filmmaking talent, providing valuable insights for attendees.
The summit will also feature a partnership between NIFS, the US Consulate and The Writers Lab from New York. They will present an exclusive scriptwriting workshop titled “Screenwriting for Emerging Talent in Nigeria: The First Steps to a Powerful Story,” focusing on empowering mature women writers. Participants who registered are expected to confirm their location whether they would be attending virtually or in person.
Another exciting addition is the “Pitch-to-Win” session, a collaboration between NIFS Lagos and the National Film Authority of Ghana.
This initiative aims to revitalise ties between the Ghanaian and Nigerian film industries, promoting cross-cultural storytelling.
TransPerfect Media, a global leader in media localisation and distribution, will be present at the summit. Their involvement underscores the event’s focus on global storytelling and the importance of making African narratives accessible to international audiences.
CINÉKITA, a leading audiovisual production and post-production company with a strategic presence in both Europe and West Africa, will also be at the event. CINÉKITA brings cutting-edge facilities and expertise in HD, UHD and 4K production. Their multicultural approach ensures content that resonates with diverse audiences, offering services from dubbing and subtitling to editing and more.
Cotouest Audiovisuals, now part of Mediawan Africa, will be showcasing its vast catalogue of nearly 22,000 hours of content. Attendees can look forward to meetings with key executives, including Tania Ekonde for digital distribution, Babacar Diouf for dubbing and localization, and Amandine Massok for content licensing.
Digital Factory, a complete image & sound post-production ecosystem, will also be present. With facilities in France, Belgium, and Morocco, they offer a 360° expertise in enhancing and safeguarding content creation.
In a significant move, Aforevo Dubbing, which will also be attending the summit, has announced a groundbreaking initiative offering a 60% discount on premium dubbing services. This limited-time offer aims to make high-quality dubbing accessible to a wider range of producers, enabling them to connect with global audiences.
The Industry Services Arena will host an impressive lineup of exhibitors, including the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), Film One Entertainment, MultiChoice Talent Factory, and many more.
