Westside Gunn continues to slam Dr. Dre’s “Compton”

Westside Gunn, Griselda Records co-founder, is still not impressed with Dr. Dre’s 2015 album, Compton. In a recent social media post, according to a hiphopdx.com report, the rapper doubled down on his long-standing criticism of the project, which came 15 years after Dre’s previous solo album, 2001.

“N-ggas waited 15 years for Compton to drop and it’s trash and it took me 15 hours to make Hitler Wears Hermes 2 and it’s a masterpiece,” Gunn wrote, echoing his original post from 2015. Ten years later, he remains steadfast, adding, “10 years later and still not impressed by none of these n-ggas. Still making albums in a day… All with no machine, no fake beefs, no gimmicks, no clickbait, just art.”

Dr. Dre has yet to publicly respond to Gunn’s comments, but he isn’t the only one taking aim at the legendary producer. West Coast hip-hop pioneer DJ Quik has also been vocal about his place in the industry, suggesting he deserves the same recognition as Dre.

When a fan on X wrote, “DJ Quik is actually who everyone thinks Dr. Dre is,” Quik replied, “Finally. Someone had the balls to say it.”

This isn’t the first time Quik has made such a statement. In 2022, he said, “I know it’s early. But I deserve to be where Dre is. I don’t think it’s fair.” While acknowledging his love for Dre as a “big brother,” Quik has made it clear that he feels his impact is often overlooked due to a lack of major label support.
