Wendy Shay’s heartbreak anthem “Old Flame” ignites music scene

Wendy Shay has unveiled her latest musical offering, “Old Flame,” a compelling fusion of contemporary Afrobeats and traditional highlife that chronicles the aftermath of a tumultuous relationship.

The track, released this week, according to a statement, showcases the rising Ghanaian songstress’s evolution as an artiste while maintaining her signature connection to her cultural roots.

The multi-lingual composition weaves together Twi, Pidgin and native Ghanaian expressions, creating a tapestry of emotional vulnerability that transcends language barriers. “You mess up my mood right now,” Shay candidly expresses in one verse, while the Twi lyrics “Maha m3 gyegye me gyegye me” (translating to “I will collect myself”) reflect a journey from heartache to healing.

Musically, “Old Flame” stands out with its rich production elements, featuring traditional highlife guitar riffs expertly layered over modern Afrobeats percussion and atmospheric synths. The arrangement creates an paradoxically upbeat backdrop for its emotionally charged narrative marking another milestone in the artiste’s ascending career trajectory.

This release no doubt further cements Shay’s position as one of Ghana’s leading musical exports, demonstrating her ability to bridge cultural authenticity with contemporary appeal.

The track is now available on all major streaming platforms here and fans can connect with Wendy Shay on Instagram & X.
