Viola Davis, at 59, takes on heart-pounding stunts as the American president in Prime Video’s G20, which has been streaming since April 10, per people.com. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Oscar winner revealed her surprising delight in performing her own action sequences.
“I did almost all of it, believe it or not. I’m a masochist,” Davis quipped, adding, “I needed some fun at this point in my life.”
Davis stars as a fierce leader defending her family and the world when terrorists storm the G20 Summit in Cape Town. One standout scene—a gritty kitchen brawl—brought out her inner child. “Maybe it’s the frying pan and knocking someone over the head,” she told EW. “Little Viola had the most fun. I always wanted to play with the biggest boys and pretend to take them down. I wasn’t afraid. Everything else seemed boring.”
The Woman King star shared another heartfelt moment on Good Morning America April 7, describing her 14-year-old daughter Genesis’ reaction to her action-hero role.
“She was so excited, saying, ‘Mum, you’re golden!’ She cried. She laughed,” Davis said, beaming. “I loved being the hero to my teenage daughter. Usually, in these teenage years, you just disappear. They become zombies, and you become anything but a hero.”
Davis’ performance, which blends raw intensity with emotional depth, showcases her versatility. Her joy in tackling the physical demands of G20 reflects a career unafraid of bold choices, from historical epics to now dominating the action genre. “Her sitting there watching me like that… It was everything,” she added, underscoring the personal stakes behind her powerhouse role.
