Uche Ikejimba has once again proven her prowess in the world of African television with her sixth consecutive nomination for the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA). The announcement, made on Sunday, March 24, 2024, across all Africa Magic channels, saw the celebrated producer clinch a nomination in the prestigious Best Unscripted M-Net Original category for her show What Will People Say.
Having previously received nominations in 2022 for Unmarried and Dilemma, and in 2023 for Come Play Naija and Unmarried, Ikejimba’s latest nomination further solidifies her reputation as one of Africa’s leading producers.
Reflecting on her latest nomination, Ikejimba expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m very humbled and beyond grateful to be receiving my sixth consecutive AMVCA nomination. Anyone who knows me will acknowledge that I often put my blood, sweat, and tears into the shows I produce.”
Renowned for her work on a plethora of reality TV shows and unscripted serials, Ikejimba has earned herself the title of ‘Reality TV Series Savant’. Her impressive portfolio includes popular shows such as 100% Naija, Vodafone Icons, Naija Sings, Calabar Festival Diaries, Big Brother Reunion, Shoot Your Shot, Come Play Naija, What Will People Say, Husband Material and Overall Best.
However, Ikejimba’s talents extend beyond reality TV, as she has also made significant strides in producing original drama series. Her journey in television production began as an associate producer on Moments with Mo, Africa’s first and only syndicated daily talk show at the time.
In 2016, Ikejimba landed her first commissioned project with Africa Magic, a series titled Hustle, which became an instant hit and ran for three seasons, totaling 360 episodes. She went on to create, write and produce Truth, which won an AMVCA for Best TV Series in 2020. Her other successful drama series include Unmarried, Dilemma, Shallow, Manfriend, and the critically acclaimed AGU.
Ikejimba’s talent and dedication have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by her numerous nominations and awards. Her first feature-length film, Phantom, a co-production, has also garnered attention and is nominated for several awards, including the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).
Ikejimba has beaten many odds to become a producer and remained steadfast in her commitment to producing the best shows Africa has ever seen. As the continent prepares for the milestone 10th AMVCA, the Reality TV Series Savant and producer extraordinaire is content to celebrate her sixth consecutive nomination. Find out if she clinches her second AMVCA win when the awards air live across all Africa Magic channels on May 11, 2024.
