Top Neurologist: Wendy Williams does not have FTD

Former talk show host Wendy Williams does not have frontotemporal dementia (FTD), according to the findings of a top neurologist.

Sources told tmz.com that the television personality recently completed a series of tests overseen by a New York City-based medical doctor. The results reportedly conflict with an earlier test that had determined Williams suffered from frontotemporal dementia, a group of brain diseases affecting the areas associated with personality, behavior, and language.

The newer results were reportedly sent to Williams’ legal team late last month. TMZ indicates that Williams’ lawyers plan to file legal documents with the court, with hopes the new medical evidence will influence a judge to terminate the former radio host’s guardianship.

The announcement comes nearly two years after Williams’ team first disclosed her diagnosis.

In February 2024, the former “Wendy Williams Show” host’s team announced she was diagnosed with FTD, as well as aphasia. Williams, who also battles Graves’ disease and lymphedema, underwent testing in 2023 after experiencing memory failure, “losing words,” and “acting erratically,” according to a press release at the time.

The 61-year-old “Dancing with the Stars” alum was in an undisclosed treatment centre when the diagnosis was made public, with her family claiming they were unable to reach her.

The celebrity’s legal troubles began earlier. In 2022, Williams was placed under a court-ordered guardianship after her bank, Wells Fargo, sent a letter to New York Supreme Court Judge Arlene Bluth requesting a hearing about her well-being. An attorney for the financial institution wrote that they had “strong reason to believe” Williams was a “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation.”

In June, Williams’ second ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, filed a $250 million lawsuit seeking to end her conservatorship.

In the suit, the television producer, 53, claimed the guardianship under Sabrina Morrissey had “become a weapon, not a shield.” Hunter alleged that his ex-wife was being “abused, neglected, and defrauded under the care of court-appointed guardians.”

Hunter also claimed in the filing that Williams was being “confined against her will at one of Coterie’s assisted living facilities with restricted access to her own phone and meaningful contact with her friends and family.”
