Tom Holland is earning praise online after politely correcting a journalist who referred to Zendaya as his “girlfriend” – a slip-up that prompted the Spider-Man star to confirm his recent engagement, per huffpost.com.
The candid moment, captured in a now-viral video on X, occurred during a recent press event. When an off-camera reporter told Holland, “I brought my daughter, and she got to meet your girlfriend,” the actor interjected with a laugh.
“Fiancée,” Holland replied, gently reminding the reporter of his upcoming marriage. The response appears to be Holland’s first public comment since news of the couple’s engagement broke in January.
The two stars, who have been romantically linked since 2021, are notoriously private about their relationship. Reports indicated Holland popped the question between Christmas and New Year’s.

While the couple has remained mostly quiet about their big day, Zendaya has been seen sporting her engagement ring on multiple occasions, including at the Golden Globes and the Met Gala earlier this year. When a Los Angeles Times reporter asked the Dune star about the ring at the Golden Globes, she simply smiled, held up the ring and shrugged.
Holland’s father, however, confirmed the engagement in January, saying his son was “incredibly well prepared.”
“He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter. Tom had everything planned out… When, where, how, what to say, what to wear,” his dad shared at the time.
Zendaya most recently showed off the ring on Tuesday while attending the Louis Vuitton Womenswear Spring/Summer 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week.
As for the wedding planning, Zendaya’s longtime stylist Law Roach told E! News in July that “the process hasn’t even started yet,” citing the actress’s busy filming schedule, including the next installment of Dune. “We have a lot of time,” Roach added.
Zendaya previously opened up to Elle Magazine in August 2023 about keeping her romance with Holland out of the spotlight.
“Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public,” she said. “I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share.”
She added that it’s about “protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist.”
