Nigerians get a positive representation in CBS sitcom, ‘Bob hearts Abishola’

Nigerians have always been stereotyped by the western world as a country full of grab- all-you-can hustlers with an eye for deceit and dishonesty.

So it comes somewhat as a surprise that CBS recently launched a first-of-its-kind, American sitcom series that unpacks Nigerian immigrants in a positive light.

The series titled ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ (stylized as BOB❤️ABISHOLA) is an American sitcom television series created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky, Al Higgins, and Gina Yashere that premiered on September 23, 2019 on CBS.

The sitcom series is currently in the third episode of the first season and the ratings are very encouraging.

From award-winning creator, executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre, ‘Bob Hearts Abishola’ is a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over. Undaunted by Abishola’s lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob is determined to win Abishola’s heart, in this comedic examination of immigrant life in America.

We are just glad that somebody is willing to change the narrative and show that the vast majority of Nigerians are hardworking and honest people.
