Four Nigerian performers are on the brink of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon theatre performance. Graciano Enwerem (Sir Grrraciano), Tamara Dogubo, TheGift Chikere, and Doubra Agwana have been performing continuously for over 120 hours, aiming to reach 170 hours by October 19, 2024.
Dubbed “The Eclipse Event” or “Theatrethon,” this ambitious project is more than just a record attempt. It is a powerful platform for social change, featuring plays that tackle critical issues such as Sickle Cell awareness, political rivalry, gender-based violence and mental health. The performances include TheGift Chikere’s SILENCE: Death In Rehearsal, Tamara Dogubo’s Colour Me Mad, Graciano Enwerem’s Reap-off Rip-off and AS In.
Despite facing significant challenges, including financial strain and last-minute withdrawals of promised support, the team remains undeterred. “Whatever I set my mind to do, I don’t go back against it,” Sir Graciano stated. “We’re not just breaking a record; we’re igniting a movement. We are just broken people, trying to break a record to be heard.”
Theatrethon has gained considerable attention through social media campaigns, behind-the-scenes content and street publicity. The team calls on global supporters to join their mission, advocating for critical social causes and promoting awareness.
