‘The Struggle Is Real’: A fresh take on young Nigerians’ struggles premieres March 1

A new web series titled “The Struggle Is Real” is set to premiere on YouTube’s Film Patio TV on Saturday, March 1. This dramedy, created by a team of young, first-time producers and filmmakers, promises to deliver a hilarious yet deeply relatable portrayal of life in Lagos, Nigeria.

The series, directed by Temilolu Fosudo and Debola Santa Ogunshina, follows the lives of a group of young Lagosians sharing an apartment as they navigate careers, complicated relationships, and the everyday chaos of city life. At the heart of the story are two main characters: Pam, a young woman seeking a fresh start, and Remi, a newcomer to the city learning to adapt to life with a diverse group of housemates. The show explores themes of love, loss, friendship and the economic challenges faced by young Nigerians.

“The Struggle Is Real” features a talented ensemble cast, including Folaremi Agunbiade, Wumi Tuase-Fosudo, Akorede “Korexx” Ajayi, Yemisi Fancy, Wendy Lawal Simpson and Tobee Awosika. The series is written by Folaremi Agunbiade and co-created by Wumi Tuase-Fosudo, who also serves as a producer alongside Tobee Awosika and Paul Aderanti. This project marks their debut as producers, having previously worked together on the Africa Magic series ITURA.

For director Temilolu Fosudo, “The Struggle Is Real” is also a first. Describing the experience as an “intense and extremely enjoyable adventure,” Fosudo highlighted the camaraderie among the team, many of whom met on the set of ITURA. “Working with friends made it easy as everyone understood their roles perfectly,” he said.

The series will premiere with two episodes dropping every Saturday until the finale on March 29.

With its fresh take on the struggles of young Nigerians, the show aims to resonate with a wide audience. “We wanted to create a realistic story of young people for everyone to enjoy,” the producers shared. “It’s a show that was made with our friends who are professionals in the industry, and we are excited for everyone to see it.”

Don’t miss the premiere on March 1st, 2025, on Film Patio TV’s YouTube channel.
