The Noble Warrior (Eni Ogun), a Black Musical masterpiece, is set to grace the stage of the historic Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos on July 11, 12 and 13. This grand presentation aims to honour Africa’s first Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, as he marks his 91st birthday on July 13.
The critically acclaimed play, penned and produced by Nigerian-American, playwright, poet and producer, Cash Onadele, also known as Aiye-Ko-ooto, was first seen last year during Soyinka’s 90th birthday celebration. Last July, in collaboration with the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSICE), “The Noble Warrior” premiered in Abeokuta before moving on to successful runs in Lagos, captivating audiences with its rich narrative and powerful performances.
The play paints a vivid portrait of Soyinka’s life, showing his fight for what is right and his gentle soul. It follows Oluwole, a brave warrior whose quiet life is thrown into chaos as he fights to free his land from rule by the British. The play’s core idea is that a single arrow, like a strong sense of right and wrong, can cut through bad acts, old rule, and power.
The suspense-filled Black musical theatre celebrative production will unfold in two shows each day: Matinee (3pm) and Champagne (6pm). at the historic Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos.
