The Game crowns himself West Coast king of rap

Compton rapper The Game has stirred controversy by declaring himself the best rapper on the West Coast, confidently claiming that “No one can do what I do” during a recent interview, according to hiphopdx.com.

Appearing on the latest episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the artiste asserted that he has the superior skillset and is the “best rapper in this town,” arguing that his abilities surpass even legendary figures who paved the way for him.

When pressed by former NFL star Sharpe on the legacy of icons such as Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg, The Game doubled down on his statement.

“I love Cube but Cube can’t out-rap me,” he claimed. He likened his relationship with his predecessors to the dynamic between basketball greats, saying: “I used Cube’s legacy to help me sharpen [my skills]. I used Snoop’s legacy to help me sharpen myself… It’s like Kobe [watching] Mike growing up. In Kobe’s prime, Mike couldn’t hold Kobe.”

He added that while Ice Cube “might be able to go crazy” in his prime, today, “there’s not a rapper on the West that’s better than me.” The Game was also unequivocal when asked if he sees himself as the top rapper from his hometown of Compton, a city that also produced Kendrick Lamar and Eazy-E, replying: “I’m definitely the best rapper from Compton. Definitely.”

The rapper’s comments come as he builds anticipation for his upcoming work. He recently released Gangsta Grillz: Every Movie Needs a Trailer, his first solo project since 2022’s Drillmatic.

The mixtape serves as a prelude to his highly-anticipated project, “The Documentary 3,” which will complete his flagship album trilogy. The Game indicated that the final instalment is due early next year, stating, “We coming top of the year… January, February — something like that.” He explained the motivation behind the trilogy was to service his late grandmother’s memory and lessons on life’s “three acts.”

He concluded, “If anybody knows anything about The Game, they know my pen is never slacking… so [The Documentary 3] is incredible.”
