‘The Brutalist’ & ‘Emilia Perez’ dominate 2025 Golden Globes

In a glamorous evening that celebrated the best in film and television, the 82nd Golden Globe Awards delivered a night of surprises and historic wins at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Sunday, according to reports. The unconventional narco-musical Emilia Perez emerged as the night’s biggest winner, claiming four prestigious awards, while the intense drama The Brutalist secured three significant victories, including Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Adrien Brody’s powerful performance in The Brutalist earned him the Best Actor in a Drama award, while director Brady Corbet took home the Best Director trophy for the same film. Emilia Perez dominated the Musical/Comedy categories and made history by also winning Best Non-English Language Film, showcasing the growing global influence in Hollywood.

The television categories saw the Japanese-American series Shogun sweep major dramatic awards, with both Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai winning in the leading actor categories. The beloved comedy Hacks continued its winning streak, with Jean Smart adding another Golden Globe to her collection for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series.

In other notable victories, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, while Zoe Saldana’s performance in Emilia Perez earned her the Best Supporting Actress award. The evening also recognised innovative storytelling in limited series, with Baby Reindeer winning in its category and veterans Colin Farrell and Jodie Foster securing acting wins for The Penguin and True Detective: Night Country, respectively.

The ceremony marked a significant shift in the industry’s recognition of diverse storytelling, with winners representing a broad spectrum of genres and cultural perspectives. From the box office achievement recognition of Wicked to the animated feature winner Flow, the 2025 Golden Globes reflected an evolving entertainment landscape that continues to push creative boundaries.
