Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are officially engaged, with the surprise proposal details coming straight from Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, per people.com. In an exclusive interview with News 5’s John Kosich, Ed revealed that the engagement took place about two weeks ago at Travis’s home, despite the couple only announcing the news on August 26.
According to Ed, Travis originally planned to wait and create a more elaborate “special event.” However, he ultimately decided to pop the question spontaneously before they were about to head out for dinner. Ed shared, “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine’… they got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful.”
After the intimate proposal, the football star and pop icon immediately celebrated by FaceTiming their families to share the good news. Kelce’s father recounted the moment, saying, “As soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say.”
Swift, who wore a chic Ralph Lauren striped dress for the occasion, announced the engagement on Instagram with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married .” The post featured several photos of the couple in a romantic garden setting, giving fans a close-up look at Swift’s new ring. The dazzling jewellery was custom-designed by Kelce himself with the help of jeweller Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery.
Following the announcement, friends and family, including Patrick and Brittany Mahomes and Chiefs CEO daughter Gracie Hunt, publicly shared their joy for the couple, with Hunt calling their love story a “modern fairytale.”
