Get ready for an enriching cinematic experience as the Nollywood Studies Centre presents the Filmmakers’ Forum featuring filmmaker Steve Gukas. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
Gukas, a seasoned filmmaker with a diverse background in television, theatre, advertising 1and film, will share his insights and expertise with attendees. His journey in the world of filmmaking includes earning a Diploma in TV production from the NTA Television College in Jos and a BA degree in theatre arts from the University of Jos. Further honing his craft, Gukas studied film production at the prestigious London Film School.
The forum, according to the organisers, promises to be an engaging session where participants can gain valuable knowledge from Gukas’ extensive experience.
Notable among his achievements is the acclaimed film A Place in the Stars, a tribute to the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, which received the Best Movie Drama award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2015.
Gukas has also left an indelible mark with impactful films such as Namibia – The Struggle for Liberation, premiered at the 2006 Pan Africa Film Festival in LA, earning numerous awards. His impressive filmography includes works like Keeping Faith, Katanga,Three Scores and Ten, A Life to View Soweto, Mr. Johnson, and 93 Days.
Beyond his directorial achievements, Gukas has contributed significantly to the industry by producing and directing commercials and documentaries. In December 2020, his company, Natives Filmworks, launched the groundbreaking First Features project in collaboration with Michelangelo Production. Dedicated to nurturing first-time directors, the project has already yielded five remarkable films, including Love and Life, which premiered on Amazon Prime on December 29, 2023.
