Succession star Sarah Snook makes her highly anticipated Broadway debut today in the solo adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, per playbill.com. The production, adapted and directed by Kip Williams, begins performances at the Music Box Theatre, following a sold-out West End run that earned Snook an Olivier Award for her mesmerising performance.
Williams’ innovative staging blends live theatre and video technology, with Snook portraying all 26 characters through a meticulously choreographed interplay of on-stage cameras. Supported by a team of five camera operators, the production pushes the boundaries of theatrical storytelling. The show’s groundbreaking format has already caught the attention of Hollywood, with Cate Blanchett’s Dirty Films securing the rights to adapt the stage production for the screen.
Originally developed at Sydney Theatre Company in 2020, where Williams serves as artistic director, The Picture of Dorian Gray has captivated audiences worldwide. The Broadway production features stunning set and costume design by Marg Horwell, atmospheric lighting by Nick Schlieper, and immersive sound design by Clemence Williams.
Produced by a powerhouse team including Adam Kenwright, Daryl Roth, and Michael Cassel Group, the show is set to open officially on March 27. Snook’s performance, hailed as a tour de force, promises to be a must-see event of the Broadway season.
