Quincy Jones’ legacy lives on with vinyl, SHM-CD rereleases

Just months after the passing of the legendary Quincy Jones in November 2024, a treasure trove of his iconic work is set to be rereleased, per udiscovermusic.com. Four seminal albums – Smackwater Jack, You’ve Got It Bad Girl, Body Heat, and Walking In Space – will grace vinyl on June 6, offering audiophiles a chance to experience Jones’ genius in its warm analogue glory. Adding to this celebration, a further six albums, including This Is How I Feel About Jazz, Big Band Bossa Nova, The Quintessence, Mellow Madness, Sounds… And Stuff Like That, and The Dude, will become available on high-quality SHM-CD.

This diverse selection underscores the remarkable breadth of Jones’ musical journey. From the early jazz orchestrations of 1962’s The Quintessence to the genre-bending fusion of Walking In Space, these rereleases highlight his evolution as an arranger, composer, and producer. Fans can rediscover his soulful rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “You’ve Got It Bad Girl,” which also features the iconic “Sanford & Son Theme,” and revisit his foray into television scores with tracks from “Ironside” and “The Bill Cosby Show” on Smackwater Jack. Body Heat showcases his successful blend of pop and soul, solidifying his status as a musical innovator.

Memorable tributes at the 2025 Grammys and Oscars, featuring performances of “Fly Me To The Moon” and “Ease On Down The Road,” respectively, underscored his enduring impact.
