Pras Michel abandons lawsuit against Lauryn Hill ahead of prison term

Pras Michel has dropped his legal battle against Fugees bandmate Ms. Lauryn Hill, ending a bitter dispute over the group’s ill-fated 2023 reunion tour, according to pitchfork.com.

The voluntary dismissal, filed on March 11, sees the case scrapped “without prejudice,” meaning both parties will cover their own legal costs. Michel’s original 2024 lawsuit accused Hill of fraud, breach of contract and “gross mismanagement,” claiming her reputation for unpunctuality and “arrogance” led to the tour’s sudden cancellation just days before its start.

The suit had sought significant damages for lost income. Michel notably alleged that Hill rejected a $5 million Coachella offer because the Fugees were not given top billing over No Doubt.

Hill previously dismissed the claims as “baseless,” suggesting Michel’s judgement was clouded by his own mounting legal pressures. In a statement, she noted: “I understood that Pras was under duress because of his legal battles… I was not in Pras’ life when he decided to make the unfortunate decision that led to his current legal troubles.”

The resolution comes at a critical moment for Michel. Following his November 2025 conviction for criminal conspiracy and illegal foreign lobbying, linked to the funneling of Malaysian funds into Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign, the rapper is due to begin a 14-year prison sentence.

He is scheduled to report to authorities on March 30. With his surrender date approaching, the withdrawal of the civil suit effectively closes this chapter of the Fugees’ turbulent history.
