Playboi Carti charged with assault after allegedly punching limo driver

Playboi Carti (real name Jordan Carter) was charged with assault earlier this month after allegedly attacking his limousine driver while on tour in Utah.

According to a report from hiphopdx.com, the rapper was charged on October 2 for allegedly punching the driver, Carl Reynolds, in the face during a stop in Salt Lake City.

Reynolds, who was driving Carti and his entourage, says the incident began when an argument broke out between the rapper and his girlfriend in the backseat on the way to a rehearsal.

The driver stopped the vehicle to de-escalate the situation. According to the police report, Carti then “got upset and hit [his] girlfriend.” However, Reynolds told police he didn’t actually witness the hit but observed the woman “hunched over, holding near her chest.”

The driver claims that Carti subsequently “hit him on the left side of his face when he was not looking,” leaving visible redness and injury on his jaw, the report states.

While Carti’s girlfriend and a security guard initially tried to take the blame, Carti ultimately confessed to the crime, telling police he “punched [Reynolds] for stopping in a weird place and dropping them off.”

Wasatch County police are currently investigating the incident. Reynolds is reportedly planning legal action, emphasizing that his main concern is ensuring Carti “doesn’t hurt anyone else — including his GF.”

The charges come as Playboi Carti continues his Antagonist 2.0 Tour, with performances ongoing in cities like Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

This is not the first time the “Magnolia” hitmaker has faced legal trouble for alleged violent conduct. In February 2023, Carti was arrested over claims he choked his pregnant girlfriend following a dispute months earlier over a paternity test.

The woman, who was 14 weeks pregnant at the time, alleged that Carti had grabbed her by the throat and pushed her, holding her neck until she could barely breathe. Carti’s attorney, Brian Steel, stated at the time that his client was “falsely accused” and the case would be “dismissed without any prosecution or litigation.”
