Pelu Awofeso debuts “Detty Days and City Nights,” a love letter to Lagos

Pelu Awofeso, travel writer and seasoned culture curator, has officially announced the publication of his eagerly awaited eBook, Detty Days and City Nights: An Insider’s Guide to Sightseeing Lagos for all Budgets and Seasons.

With over two decades of experience in travel writing and 15 years as a respected tour guide, Awofeso’s new guide is a comprehensive celebration of Lagos, the sprawling city known for its relentless creativity and cosmopolitan energy.

The book offers essential, practical insights for both tourists and long-time residents, covering everything from top eateries and must-see cultural landmarks to navigating the city on every budget, in every season.

Detty Days and City Nights expands on Awofeso’s earlier acclaimed work, White Lagos, a detailed exploration of the historic Eyo Festival and its heritage. This latest guide enriches the narrative with fresh travel tips and a unique Lagos Playlist, a curated collection of songs that celebrate the city’s role as West Africa’s centre for commerce and creativity.

Significantly, the eBook features a section dedicated to Lagos’s heritage conservation efforts, showcasing travel and culture articles that highlight the state government’s work. A standout chapter introduces readers to seven fascinating attractions unfamiliar to many visitors, including Pada Lagos, CRIMMD Museum, Shyllon Museum, Vintage Africana and King Kosoko Palace Museum.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Pelu Awofeso described the book as deeply personal.

“I have read of writers composing a love letter to their cities of birth or residence. Detty Days and City Nights is my own love letter to Lagos. I was excited working on it and feel deeply fulfilled now that it’s completed,” he shared.

The exclusive launch of Detty Days and City Nights is set to take place at Art X Lagos, the continent’s premier contemporary art fair, running from November 6-9, 2025. Attendees can purchase the eBook on-site using a dedicated QR code and purchase link.

Following the close of Art X Lagos, the guide will remain available for purchase online via the same channels. This launch marks a significant milestone in sharing the history, culture and endless possibilities of this thriving metropolis with the world.
