Pop culture titans Barbra Streisand and Paul McCartney have finally unveiled the behind-the-scenes magic of their collaboration on a new version of McCartney’s ballad, “My Valentine,” per americansongwriter.com. This highly anticipated duet will grace Streisand’s upcoming album, “The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two”.
A newly released video feature offers fans an intimate look at the recording session. Streisand, a long-time admirer of Sir Paul, praised his brilliance, calling “My Valentine” a “gentle and honest expression of love.” McCartney reciprocated, recalling his early impressions of Streisand’s “beautiful voice” when The Beatles and Barbra both debuted in 1963.
The recording session itself provided some humorous moments. Executive producer Jay Landers recounted McCartney’s arrival during a downpour, singing the opening line of “My Valentine”: “What if it rained, we didn’t care?”
However, the session wasn’t without its challenges for McCartney. Despite writing the song, he admitted to “moments of terror” navigating key changes and modulations to perfectly blend his voice with Streisand’s. Co-producer Peter Asher observed the two masters meticulously working out their parts, proving their dedication to their craft.
As the video concludes, Streisand lauds McCartney’s artistry and cleverly references a famous Beatles lyric: “It turns out, you actually can get by with a little help from your friends, especially if one of them happens to be Sir Paul.”
