NLNG has entered a new era of celebrating excellence with the unveiling of refreshed visual identities for its prestigious awards. At a press conference held Thursday, January 29, the company revealed new logos for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, The Nigeria Prize for Science and the newly introduced The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts.
For over two decades, the prizes have served as independent symbols of national aspiration and intellectual rigour. Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, described the rebranding as a “strategic repositioning” designed to ensure the prizes maintain global resonance and sustained relevance.

“This redesign is deliberate and forward-looking,” Horsfall noted. “It protects the legacy of the prizes while positioning them to be more visible, more iconic, and aligned with global standards of distinction into the future”.

The new identities move beyond mere aesthetics, using a specific “language” of colour and form to represent the core of each discipline.
For The Nigeria Prize for Literature, the symbol is inspired by the turning pages of a book, suggesting imagination in motion and stories unfolding.

The fluid curves represent storytelling in all its forms—fiction, poetry, drama and prose, while the palette, a green gradient mirrors the fertile landscape of Nigerian voices and the journey of an idea from its first spark to a story fully told.
Prof. Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, Chairperson of the Advisory Board of The Nigeria Prize for Literature noted the identity affirms literature’s role as a dynamic force shaping cultural memory.
The Symbol for The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation is formed from intersecting blue orbits that evoke atomic energy, electron pathways and celestial motion, the circular composition conveys the boundless nature of human inquiry and the continuity of scientific progress.

The Palette, a blue-and-lime scheme reflects curiosity, intelligence and the relentless search for truth.
Prof. Barth Nnaji, Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Nigeria Prize for Science stated the logo reflects the “rigour and ambition” required for national transformation.
The Symbol for The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, anchored by a lime-green spiral representing innovation and creative momentum, which motion conveys rhythm and interconnectedness, suggesting a “flow state” that mirrors a brushstroke, a sculptor’s hand, or a filmmaker’s lens. Its lime-green palette signals freshness, optimism and originality.

While the visual forms have changed, the fundamental values of the Prizes remain steadfast. Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku, NLNG’s Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, emphasised that the new logos reflect the confidence of an institution that honours its history while embracing its responsibility for the future. Excellence remains the benchmark, and integrity the foundation.
The rebranding follows NLNG’s recent corporate brand refresh and signals a unified vision to celebrate the transformative power of ideas across Nigeria and beyond.
