Nigerian artistes shine at 2024 MOBO Awards

Nigerian singer Asake bounced back triumphantly after losing out at the Grammys, clinching the Best African Act award at the 2024 MOBO Awards celebrating black music excellence, held in Sheffield, UK.

Asake and a couple of Nigerian Afrobeat icons lost the inaugural Best African Music Performance award at the Grammys to South African singer Tyla,

Asake’s victory wasn’t the only highlight for Nigeria; gospel singer Samuel Onwubiko, known as Limoblaze, secured the Best Gospel Act award, adding to the country’s success at the prestigious event.

British rapper Central Cee emerged as a standout winner, grabbing two awards including Best Male Act and Song of the Year for his hit “Sprinter” featuring British-Nigerian rapper Dave.

Asake and Limoblaze achievements further solidify Nigeria’s presence on the global music stage, following in the footsteps of icons likeDavido,  Wizkid and Burna Boy, who have previously claimed MOBO Awards.

Hosted by Indiyah Polack and Babatunde Aleshe, the 2024 MOBOs were a night to remember.

Hosted for the first time in Sheffield, the evening saw performances from the likes of Byron Messiah, Ghetts and the Sugababes, and a whopping 24 awards being handed out.
