Nicki Minaj, fresh off breaking a vinyl sales record, has showered praise on rival pop queen Taylor Swift after claiming the coveted No. 2 spot on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart. But the rivalry seems friendly, with the rap queen expressing eagerness to collaborate with Swift “in a heartbeat.”
Swift’s recent dominance of the chart saw her hold the entire top five spots, a milestone for female artistes. However, Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 dethroned her reign, landing at No. 2. Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) remains at No. 1, with her other albums filling the remaining top five slots.
“The SAG(ITTARIUS) QUEEN TAYLOR DESERVES!!!! PERIOD!!!!!,” Minaj tweeted, acknowledging Swift’s achievement while reminding everyone who’s the current rap vinyl champ. She further encouraged other artistes, saying, “Taylor & her fans have put in the work. Now it’s our turn.”
Adding fuel to the fire of a potential collaboration, Minaj responded to a fan’s question with a simple, “In a heartbeat.” This sparked speculation among fans, especially since both artistes share the Sagittarius zodiac sign. While prior rumours of a 1989 (Taylor’s Version) collab were quashed, the prospect of a future duet between pop and rap royalty has Swifties and Barbz buzzing.
Will we see a “SAG QUEENS” anthem soon? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the vinyl throne is up for grabs, and both queens are ready to fight for it (and maybe even share it).
