Los Angeles prosecutors have charged Nick Reiner, 32, with the murder of his parents, the acclaimed Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, per bbc.com.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman confirmed that the younger Reiner faces two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances alleging multiple killings. The charges include a “special allegation” that a knife was used in the attack. If convicted, Reiner faces life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty.

The couple was discovered dead two days ago at their residence in Brentwood, California, having sustained multiple stab wounds.
The suspect is currently awaiting medical clearance from prison officials before he is brought to court to enter a plea. While an arraignment was initially expected on Tuesday, the District Attorney’s office has stated it will now be scheduled for a later date.
“This case is heartbreaking and deeply personal,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. “We extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Rob Reiner was the visionary behind some of cinema’s most enduring classics, including This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally. Michele Singer Reiner was a respected actress, producer, and the founder of the photography agency Reiner Light.
In a joint statement, close friends including Billy Crystal, Larry David, and Martin Short paid tribute to the couple: “Rob was a master storyteller with unparalleled range. He and Michele were a special force together—dynamic, unselfish, and inspiring. We will miss them forever.”
While the motive remains under investigation, officials stated that autopsies are pending to determine the precise time and manner of death.
