Narrative Landscape Press has announced the forthcoming publication of Afrocrats, a debut novel by Mazzi Odu described as a bold and immersive portrait of power, privilege and generational inheritance within Nigeria’s elite.
The publisher confirmed the world rights acquisition on March 30.

At the centre of the novel is the Ademola dynasty, anchored by the commanding figures of Yinka and Jumoke Ademola, a family as feared as it is revered, whose reach extends across political, social and economic spheres. Operating in a world where proximity to power must be carefully calibrated, the Ademolas inhabit a rarefied orbit shaped by ambition, the quiet performance of success and rivalries that rarely surface in the open.

The novel’s tension sharpens as a new generation of heirs and associates comes of age, drawing long-suppressed fractures to the surface. Beneath the polished architecture of the dynasty’s success lies a structure held together by compromise, shifting loyalties and questions that have never been answered. In Odu’s telling, allegiance is fluid and the cost of belonging has a habit of revealing itself too late.
Odu brings sharp social observation to the novel’s exploration of identity and inheritance in contemporary Africa, interrogating the mythology of effortless ascent and exposing the negotiations, rarely visible, never simple, that sustain dominance in a rapidly evolving society.
With the acquisition, the Lagos-based independent publisher reaffirms its commitment to publishing ambitious African fiction that reflects the complexity of modern African life.
A publication date is yet to be announced.
