‘Mission to Osoogun’ documentary selected for iREP 2025

The latest episode of the Crowther Project documentary series, “Mission to Osoogun,” has earned a coveted spot at the 15th iREPRESENT International Documentary Film Festival (iREP2025). Scheduled for screening at 10:30am on Saturday, March 29, at Freedom Park, Broad Street, the selection marks a milestone for the team led by Pelu Awofeso of Homestead Media and Publishing.

In a letter to supporters, Awofeso extended an invitation to the festival, which unites filmmakers, scholars, and enthusiasts from around the globe. The event fosters discussions that deepen understanding of reality through documentary storytelling.

This year’s theme will explore the clash between individual freedoms—like speech and autonomy—and the state’s role in limiting them for public safety or national security. It will also tackle the growing challenge of misinformation in the digital era, where distinguishing truth from falsehood proves increasingly difficult.

The “Mission to Osoogun” trailer, released in January, offers a glimpse into the episode’s narrative. The full festival schedule is available for attendees on the festival’s website https://www.irepdocufilm.com/. Awofeso expressed excitement about welcoming guests to the screening, highlighting the film’s role in sparking meaningful dialogue.

The 2025 edition promises a provocative exploration of personal freedoms and collective responsibility under the theme “FREEDOM: Rights and Responsibility.” Scheduled for late March, the event will bring together filmmakers, thinkers and global audiences to confront pressing questions: How do we balance free expression with societal order, and what is the cost of unchecked liberty in today’s digital landscape?

This year’s festival will spotlight the tension between individual rights—like free speech, autonomy and prosperity—and the state’s role in restricting them for public safety, national security, or others’ rights. Amid the rise of social media, where misinformation and disinformation blur the line between truth and falsehood, organisers aim to interrogate the challenges of preserving truth when information spreads faster than verification. The documentary genre, long a beacon of reality, faces its own trials with censorship, propaganda and a fragmented media environment.

Hosted at Alliance Francaise and Freedom Park, the festival will feature films fostering critical dialogue on freedom, justice and responsibility.
