Mickey Rourke has hit out at a “humiliating” crowdfunding campaign launched to save him from eviction, insisting he never authorised the appeal, per people.com.
The 73-year-old actor and former boxer was recently served with a legal notice to pay $59,100 in rent arrears or vacate his Los Angeles home. Following the news, a GoFundMe page was established by Liya-Joelle Jones, an assistant to Rourke’s manager, claiming the drive had the star’s “full permission”.
However, in a candid video posted to Instagram on Monday, January 5, the Wrestler star appeared visibly frustrated, claiming he had no knowledge of the $100,000 fundraiser.
“That’s not me, okay?” Rourke told his followers. “If I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f—— charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my ass and pull the trigger. It’s embarrassing.”
While Rourke admitted to facing financial difficulties following a “setback” with a rental property, he clarified that he preferred to handle his affairs privately. He confirmed he had borrowed money from a close friend but stood firm against public donations.
“I would never ask strangers or fans for a nickel. That’s not my style,” he said, urging those who had already donated to seek refunds. As of Monday evening, the campaign had already raised over $95,000.
The actor also touched upon his tumultuous history in Hollywood, admitting he has “done a really terrible job” managing his career over the decades.
“I wasn’t diplomatic,” Rourke reflected, noting he had undergone 20 years of therapy to move past his previous reputation. “I’m not that person anymore.”
According to court documents, Rourke signed a lease for the three-bedroom Los Angeles property in March 2025. His landlord, Eric Goldie, is currently seeking the past-due rent along with legal fees and the forfeiture of the rental agreement.
Despite the looming eviction, Rourke reassured fans he is returning to work and plans to consult his lawyers regarding the unauthorised GoFundMe page.
