Michael Douglas has revealed that he and his Romancing the Stone co-star Kathleen Turner maintained a secret romantic relationship during the filming of the 1984 blockbuster, a truth they concealed from the public for four decades, per people.com.
The admission is published in Douglas’s upcoming memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” scheduled for release on October 6, 2026.
Douglas, now 82, and Turner, 72, grew close while working on location in Mexico for the action-comedy. At the time, Douglas was separated from his then-wife, Diandra Douglas, while managing career pressures and family commitments.
According to the memoir, the co-stars developed an intense mutual attraction that evolved into a private relationship away from the production crew, including director Bob Zemeckis and co-star Danny De Vito. The affair ended after Diandra Douglas visited the set with their son, prompting concerns over family stability and leading Douglas to briefly attempt reconciliation with his wife.
Despite the brief nature of their on-set romance and subsequent legal disputes between Turner and 20th Century Fox over a sequel, the pair maintained a lasting friendship. They later reunited professionally on The Jewel of the Nile in 1985, War of the Roses in 1989, and an episode of The Kominsky Method in 2021. Douglas confirmed he sought Turner’s permission prior to publishing details of their past relationship.
