Michael Bolton is on the mend after undergoing surgery for a recently discovered brain tumour, according to reports.
According to Us Magazine, in a heartfelt message posted on social media, the 70-year-old singer shared his unexpected health challenge and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he’s received.
Bolton revealed that just before the holiday season, doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumour requiring immediate surgery. Thankfully, the operation was a success, and he’s now recuperating at home with his family.
“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring,” Bolton wrote. The decision, he says, comes with a heavy heart, but ultimately prioritises his health and full recovery.
A UPI report states that the two-time Grammy-winner released two albums — Spark of Light and Christmas Time — in 2023.
Fans can expect a temporary pause on Bolton’s upcoming North American and European tour dates, originally planned to showcase his latest album, Spark of Light. Released in July 2023, the album marked his first foray into new music in over a decade, inspired by the desire to spread joy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Guardian reports that the soul singer, who was due to perform on 1 February at the Murray theatre at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Florida, with six tour dates in February, before three in both March and April, said he would be devoting his time and energy to recovery over the next few months.
Despite the unexpected setback, Bolton remains optimistic about his return. “It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon,” he declared.
