Yesterday night was arguably one of the biggest nights in reality TV in Africa, with the grand finale of the Big Brother Naija, ‘pepper dem’ season drawing to a close.
But apart from the premium entertainment supplied by the trending event and the over 50 million votes that came in this week for contestants, rapper MI supplied his own unique brand of entertainment to the proceedings.
He came for Vector on stage.
There was high octane stage performances from Patoranking and Tiwasage and MI, but the short black boy made his offering solely about his recent spar with arch rival and fellow Nigerian rapper, Vector tha Viper.
He came on stage with a t-shirt cunningly inscribed with the words ‘ No Snakes’, a rhetoric directed towards the ‘snake-affiliated’ Vector.
But that wasn’t all, he performed hit songs like ‘Anoti’, ‘Undisputed’ and the inflamed ‘Bad Belle’; undoubtedly taking a jab at Vector and reaffirming his right to the throne.
In-between songs, he threw in a short freestyle of his recently released Vector-directed, diss track and displayed the art image of the said track which he titled, ‘The Viper’ alongside a writhing snake on the floor of the stage which he continually stamped for emphasis.
It was a generous dose of cleverly- constructed diss, nothing like we have ever seen before.
The performance threw social media into a frenzy with people reliving the unforgettable performance with the trending hashtag of #NoSnakes
Barely hours after MI released his response to Vector, the track was already the No.1 trending track in Nigeria and as at the time of publication No. 8 trending song worldwide on Genius.com.
Impressive right?
Meanwhile Vector has been uncharacteristically quiet, something that is quite alien to him, with his only response being a call for a beat to craft a suitable response to the MI onslaught.
We await this hip-hop spectacule, because this is definitely not the end of it.
