Lola Young marks triumphant return with raw Los Angeles performance

British singer-songwriter Lola Young has officially transitioned from rising star to bona fide rock icon following a spectacular return to the stage at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theatre, per variety.com. After a six-month hiatus to focus on her health and recovery from addiction, the 25-year-old Londoner delivered a 65-minute set that balanced vulnerable storytelling with a fierce, guitar-driven energy.

The performance served as a powerful reminder of why Young is considered the edgiest talent in the current wave of British female vocalists. Eschewing the camp motifs often associated with modern pop, she began the evening with stark, acoustic renditions of “Bad Game (3 AM)” and “Walk All Over You.” Her low, conversational register bridged the gap between jazz and hip-hop, creating an atmosphere of raw intimacy that felt entirely authentic rather than an emotional gimmick.

As the set progressed, the arrival of her full band shifted the mood toward a heavy, boomy rock aesthetic. This evolution in sound aligns with her third album, I’m Only F**king Myself, which leans into a more aggressive, power-pop direction. During the performance of “d£aler,” Young shared a rare smile, acknowledging the irony of performing a catchy track about disappearing with drugs while publicly maintaining her sobriety.

The Orpheum crowd, who secured tickets through a lottery system, responded with a standing ovation that lasted well into the encore. Young took a moment at the end of the night to address her recent absence, telling the audience she is taking care of herself for them. With only a handful of UK dates scheduled for June, the music industry is watching closely to see where this “regeneration” takes her next. If her LA comeback is any indication, Young is poised for a global trajectory that matches the saturation-level fame she already enjoys back home.
