The Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź will transform into a cutting-edge showcase of contemporary fiber art when the 18th International Triennial of Textile opens on October 11 at 11am. The event, recognised as the world’s oldest and most significant textile art festival, promises to blur the lines between traditional craft, advanced technology, and live performance.
Curators Marta Kowalewska and Bukola Oyebode-Westerhuis present “Deconstruction/Reconstruction,” the triennial’s centerpiece exhibition that challenges conventional boundaries in textile art. The festival’s innovative programming includes Agnieszka Piłat’s autonomous robot creating live textile works in “Weaving Intelligence,” while performance artists Alydia Wever and Ryan Oduber stage dynamic movement pieces throughout the day.
October 11’s packed schedule features the triennial medal ceremony at 2pm, followed by Agata Siniarska and Ilja Subkoff’s avant-garde “SHIRTSHOW” fashion-performance at 5pm. Dutch artist Simone Goslinga concludes the opening day with an evening sound-weave installation that merges audio and textile experiences.
The celebration extends to October 12 with Ibrahim Mahama leading an open seminar at the Academy of Fine Arts and the 5th Young Textile Art Triennial (YTAT) awards ceremony at the City Art Gallery. With free admission, bilingual tours, and city-wide exhibitions, organisers anticipate 50,000 visitors and massive social media engagement under #TextileTriennial2025.
