Literary contest launched for review of Olukorede S. Yishau’s new novel ‘After The End’

A new opportunity has emerged for budding literary critics with the launch of a book review contest centred on After The End, the latest novel by renowned journalist and author Olukorede S. Yishau. Organised by cultural enthusiast Tope-EniObanke Adegoke in collaboration with Afapinen, a popular culture magazine, a statement said the contest invites young writers to craft in-depth reviews that engage with the novel’s themes and literary style.

In a statement, the organisers emphasised their search for reviews that go beyond the surface, urging participants to creatively analyse and appreciate the novel’s exploration of life and the human condition. “We prize erudition and the celebration of language, above all,” the statement read, highlighting the importance of critical engagement and literary discourse in submitted entries.

The competition is open to writers aged 35 and under from around the world. Entries should be between 1,800 and 3,000 words and must be submitted via a designated Google form by September 10, 2024, at 11pm WAT. 

The top three reviews will receive cash prizes, with the first prize winner taking home N150,000, while the second and third place winners will receive N50,000 and N30,000, respectively. Winning entries will also be published in Afapinen, giving the authors a platform to showcase their work to a wider audience.

After The End is available at major bookstores across Nigeria, including Roving Heights and Terrakulture, providing easy access for participants eager to delve into Yishau’s critically acclaimed narrative. 

The winners of the competition will be announced on September 17, 2024.
