The atmosphere was electric inside the tony precinct of Alliance Francaise (Mike Adenuga Center) in Ikoyi on Friday July 12, 2024, as hundreds gathered for the premiere of Awam Amkpa’s The Man Died, a film commemorating Wole Soyinka’s activism and time in prison.
Based on the memoir of the same title, the film runs for two hours. It is a historical testament of a nation told from the point of view of a 90 years old writer, activist, and politically engaged intellectual who has interrogated the failings of the Nigerian state for over a half-century.
Guests at the premiere who came from across the world included kings and diplomats, writers and publishers, actors and filmmakers, friends and fans of Wole Soyinka as well as his sister and children.
The film will travel to London for an event schedule for July 25th at the Africa Center.
