The seventh edition of the Lagos Fringe Festival is set to captivate audiences from November 19 to 24 in a vibrant celebration of artistic expression. Curated by Pawstudios Africa, this multidisciplinary arts festival has continued to position itself as a key incubator for artistic innovation in Nigeria and beyond.
This year’s edition, according to the organisers, explores the intersection of technology and creativity, positioning itself as a key incubator for artistic innovation in Nigeria and beyond.
With over 150 performances and exhibitions spanning theatre, music, dance, visual arts, film and interactive workshops, the Lagos Fringe Festival 2024 promises an unforgettable experience. Building on the success of last year’s collaborations with international partners such as Soho Playhouse New York and the Brighton Fringe UK, this year’s festival is set to expand its global reach with the inclusion of partners from Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.
“We are proud to continue growing Lagos Fringe as a platform for creative incubation and innovation,” shared Festival Director Kenneth Uphopho. “Our workshops, mentorship sessions, and international partnerships are aimed at building lasting connections and developing new voices in the African creative ecosystem.”
Alongside the diverse array of performances and exhibitions, the festival will host a range of special programmes that emphasise professional development, collaboration and mentorship for creatives. These include the #GiveMeTha’MoneySeries, a series of workshops focused on monetizing creative content, the Women in the Arts Initiative, empowering female creatives, and the Young Critics & Reviewers Program, nurturing the next generation of art critics.
A key highlight of the festival is the Festival Gathering, a hybrid programme presented in collaboration with the British Council. This initiative provides African arts and culture leaders with practical skills in festival management, focusing on sustainability, funding and festival programming. The Festival Management Residency, which kicked off virtually in September 2024, has drawn participation from over 50 festival managers across Africa and Europe.
“The Festival Gathering is a groundbreaking initiative that equips African festival managers with the tools to create impactful, sustainable events that resonate globally,” said Tope Sanni, Head of Operations at Pawstudios Africa.
The festival will also feature a range of engaging events for participants and festival-goers, including the nostalgic Y2K Party & Participants’ Party, a high-energy Rave/DJ Battle, and the Fringe After Dark late-night gathering.
“Experience the vibrant energy of African arts and culture at Lagos Fringe 2024, where every artist is given the space to dream, create, and inspire,” the organisers invite.
The festival is in collaboration with Women in the Arts Festival, Freedom Park, British Council, PACE, Temple Productions, Abuja Fringe, Total Consult & TheatreNaija.
