Kid Cudi declares friendship with Kanye West ‘done’ over Virgil Abloh disrespect

Kid Cudi has revealed the definitive end of his long and complex friendship with Kanye West, also known as Ye, per music-news.com. Citing a candid interview on CBS Mornings, the outlet revealed that the rapper, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, stated that their bond is “done,” due to repeated betrayals and a recent, unforgivable dig at their late friend, fashion designer Virgil Abloh.

“It’s a sad thing,” Cudi told journalist Anthony Mason, reflecting on the finality of their split. He emphasized the heartbreak of losing the creative freedom they once shared, but pointed to West’s consistent disrespect as the ultimate cause. The breaking point, Cudi explained, was a comment made by West about Abloh, who passed away in 2021 from a rare form of cancer.

“Every time he took a dig at Virgil, it just made me super angry,” Mescudi stated. “Virgil was an angel to everyone; there’s no coming back from that, man.”

The two artists collaborated extensively throughout their careers, releasing the critically acclaimed album Kids See Ghosts in 2018 and co-writing hits like “Heartless” and “Make Her Say.” While West has recently faced widespread condemnation for antisemitic remarks, Cudi insisted that the end of their friendship was a personal matter rooted in West’s violation of “the code of a friendship.”

“I loved Kanye, you know? I really loved him,” Cudi concluded. “But the man that he has become, I just don’t know that guy anymore. It’s really heartbreaking.”
