R&B singer Kehlani has released “Back and Forth”, a new collaborative single featuring hip-hop icon Missy Elliott, per pitchfork.com.
The track serves as the lead single for Kehlani’s upcoming self-titled album, which is scheduled for release through Atlantic Records on April 24, coinciding with the artist’s birthday.

The new project follows the success of the 2024 LP Crash, which produced the Grammy-nominated hit “After Hours”. Kehlani enters this new album cycle following recent critical acclaim, having secured the Best R&B Performance trophy for the song “Folded” at the most recent Grammy Awards.
Missy Elliott’s contribution to the track marks a continuation of her selective guest appearances, following recent work with artists such as Skrillex and Anitta. The collaboration comes during a high-profile period for Elliott, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2023 and recently completed her debut North American headline tour.
The release of “Back and Forth” precedes a busy live schedule for Kehlani. The singer is currently confirmed to perform at the Roots Picnic 2026 alongside Jay-Z and Erykah Badu, as the industry prepares for a crowded spring release window.
The upcoming self-titled record represents a pivotal moment for Kehlani, arriving just two years after *Crash*. By choosing a self-titled format for their fourth studio album, the artist signals a definitive era in a career that has increasingly balanced commercial success with Grammy-winning critical recognition.
