In a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Jonathan Majors revealed he endured sexual abuse from the age of nine, shedding light on the childhood trauma that has shaped his life and career. The 35-year-old star, who was convicted of assault in 2023, shared his journey of healing and self-discovery as he prepares for his return to the spotlight.
Majors, known for his roles in Creed III and Loki, disclosed that the abuse came from “both men and women” during his childhood, often from individuals who were supposed to care for him. “I was f—ed up,” he said, reflecting on the absence of his father, who left the family when Majors was 8. The actor has since worked through his trauma in therapy and a domestic violence program, which he attended following his 2023 trial.
The trial, which stemmed from an altercation with his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, resulted in Majors being found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment. He was acquitted of more serious charges but was subsequently dropped by Marvel Studios. Jabbari later withdrew a civil lawsuit against him in November 2024.
Majors credited his mother, with whom he remains close, for her support during his healing process. He revealed that he recently confided in her about the abuse, prompting an emotional apology. “It’s not even an issue, mom,” he told her. “I just want you to know.”
Despite the setbacks, Majors is focused on rebuilding his career and personal life. He is set to star in “Magazine Dreams,” a film about an aspiring bodybuilder, which hits theatres on March 21. The movie was completed before his arrest, and Majors has yet to film a new project since. “I absolutely want to keep acting,” he said, “but that’s not my call. I don’t have a studio. And I’ve given up control.”
Majors also spoke about his relationship with actress Meagan Good, whom he began dating in 2023 and proposed to in November 2024. He acknowledged that therapy has helped him better understand his behavior in relationships, stating, “There are no excuses, but by getting help, you begin to understand things about yourself.”
As Majors charts his comeback, his story serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing trauma and seeking help.
Majors’ resilience and honesty have already garnered praise from peers, including Michael B. Jordan, who commended his “strength and resilience” through adversity. With “Magazine Dreams” on the horizon, the actor is determined to move forward, both personally and professionally.
