The iconic musical Dreamgirls is set to return to Broadway this autumn for its first major revival since the original 1981 production, per vibe.com. In a full-circle moment, EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Effie White in the 2006 film, announced she has joined the production team as a producer.
Hudson shared the news during a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, expressing her enthusiasm for a “reimagined” version of the classic.

“Now, I finally get to tell you that I am a producer on the team for the revival of this iconic musical!” Hudson told her audience. “It’s being reimagined for a whole new generation, and I cannot wait to share this incredible production.”
This new iteration will be helmed by director and choreographer Camille A. Brown, a five-time Tony nominee celebrated for her recent work on Hell’s Kitchen and Gypsy. While the official website has yet to confirm casting or specific opening dates, the production carries a massive legacy.
The original 1981 Broadway run at the Imperial Theatre catapulted stars Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jennifer Holliday to fame, with the latter winning a Grammy for the legendary anthem And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going. Over the decades, the show has toured internationally and enjoyed a successful West End run starring Amber Riley.
