Jennifer Hudson honours Whitney Houston at AMAs 50th anniversary special

Jennifer Hudson delivered a heartfelt tribute to Whitney Houston at the American Music Awards (AMAs) 50th Anniversary Special on October 6, per people.com. The Dreamgirls star, 43, captivated the audience with a powerful medley, including the iconic “I Will Always Love You,” at LA Center Studios.

Hudson’s performance was not only a vocal homage but also a visual one. Styled by Maeve Reilly, she donned a black La Roxx gown with sheer detailing and a crystal-embellished neckline and sleeves, mirroring the ensemble Houston wore at the 1994 AMAs. The late icon, who won 22 AMAs throughout her career, including the Award of Merit in 1994, remains a significant influence on Hudson.

In a video shared on the AMAs Instagram account, Hudson reminisced about her earliest memories of Houston, describing her as a “goddess” with a voice from “heaven.” Hudson’s connection to Houston’s gospel roots was evident in her emotional performance.

Hudson’s look, complete with a sleek high ponytail by Albert Morrison and makeup by Adam Burrell featuring a smokey eye and nude lip, paid meticulous attention to detail. The tribute was a poignant reminder of Houston’s enduring legacy in the music industry.

The AMAs 50th Anniversary Special also featured a video montage of Houston’s career highlights, introduced by Samuel L. Jackson. He recalled Houston’s remarkable achievements, including her eight awards in one night at the 1994 AMAs.

Hudson’s tribute is the latest in her series of homages to Houston, following her performances at the 2012 Grammys and the 2010 BET Honors. As Hudson continues to honour Houston’s legacy, she ensures that the late singer’s influence remains alive for future generations.
